D66 Leads Dutch Parliamentary Election

(MENAFN) The centrist-liberal party Democrats 66 (D66) has taken the lead as the largest political group in the Netherlands’ parliamentary election, securing 27 seats, according to an exit poll conducted Wednesday by Ipsos I&O for public broadcaster NOS and RTL.

Trailing closely behind, the far-right Party for Freedom (PVV) captured 25 seats, while the liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) followed with 23.

Meanwhile, the left-leaning alliance of GroenLinks–PvdA is projected to earn 20 seats, and the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) 19.

Given the exit poll’s estimated margin of error of one seat—and the possibility of a deviation of up to two seats—the competition for the top spot remains uncertain, stated NOS. Official tallies are expected later Wednesday as the vote count continues throughout the country.

Among the smaller contenders, the right-wing JA21 achieved notable progress, rising from one to nine seats, while Forum for Democracy (FvD) expanded its share from three to six.

Conversely, the pro-agriculture BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) is expected to decline from seven to four seats, and the Socialist Party (SP) from five to three.

New Social Contract (NSC), which had gained 20 seats in the previous election, is forecasted to lose all its representation, according to the same exit poll.

A second exit poll, incorporating votes cast later in the day, is scheduled to be released within the hour and may slightly adjust the seat distribution.

The definitive results will be announced once the complete vote count is finalized.
