BurlCo Farmers Market Celebrates 20th Season

One of America’s favorite farmers markets is celebrating the start of its 20th season this weekend.

The Burlington County Farmers Market will commemorate the milestone this Saturday, May 9, during its traditional Opening Day and Spring Garden Market.

Traditionally one of the biggest market days of the year, the market will run from 8:30 AM to 1 PM at the Burlington County Agricultural Center, 500 Centerton Road, Moorestown. More than 75 different vendors will be present to sell a variety of Jersey-fresh produce, seasonal plants and flowers, delicious prepared foods, creative crafts and other specialty items as the market officially kicks off its regular season of weekly markets each Saturday.

“It was 20 years ago that the County Farmers Market made its debut with 13 farms and five food vendors and artists,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. “In the ensuing two decades the market has grown to become a weekly staple for dozens of farms and small businesses, along with thousands of shoppers. In fact, it’s now recognized as one of the best markets of its kind, not just in New Jersey or the region, but the entire nation. We’re thrilled by the market’s success, and we’re looking forward to celebrating its history and impact this Saturday.”

A ceremony to celebrate the 20th season will be held at 9:30 AM and will recognize several of the original farms and vendors that have sold at the market for the past 20 years. Anniversary cake will be served while supplies last, and there will also be gardening presentations, a cooking demonstration, Make a Mother’s Day Craft activity and live music.

New and returning vendors

Among the vendors that will be selling Saturday are 2007 originals such as Little Hooves Romneys, Cranberry Hall Farm and the James Durr Farm.

Many other Farmers Market favorites will be returning, including the Black Sheep Farm, Bart’s Flowers, Davidson Exotic Mushrooms, Fernbrook Farms, Mill Creek Apiary, Pinelands Produce, Scallop Shack, Stephen Specca Farms, Recklesstown Farm Distillery, Armageddon Brewing, Cheese Etc., Harvest Coffee, Healthy Paws, Hoop House Bakery, Lula’s Empanadas, Mecha Chocolate, Raven Cakes, Humble Spud, Peewee’s Ice Cream, Raven Cakes, The Soup Bar, Tis So Sweet, Wild Flour Bakery, Scrub a lil Deepa, Linda’s Healthy Living, Clay Scenes and DAZ Innovations.

Twelve new vendors will be at the Farmers Market for the first time this year. Among those are: River Valley Community Grains, a new agricultural business specializing in nutrient-dense grains, local flour and healthy breads and cereals; Rupert’s Pizza, a new food vendor selling freshly baked pizzas; Kismet Bagels; 24 Hour Vegan; Spice it Up Jamaican Food, Ricewich, Pies and Quiches, By Zena, Great & Small Bakery, Venn Breads, Magnify Brewing, and Neck of the Woods Brewing.

“The Farmers Market was created to support Burlington County farmers who were looking for an additional way to sell their products,” said Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel, the liaison to the Department of Resource Conservation and Parks. “Over its 20-year history, the market has grown to become a significant economic engine for our local and regional farmers, restaurants, artists, breweries, distilleries and other small businesses who sell there. Its success is a credit to visionary leaders, County staff and Parks employees, and the vendors whose products make it such a beloved shopping destination.”

A park and education center devoted to agriculture

The market was launched in 2007, approximately three years after the County acquired and preserved the 68-acre Winner Dairy Farm on the Moorestown-Mount Laurel border with the intent of remaking it into a County park and education center devoted to farming and food production. A portion of the property continues to be leased for farming, and it also has community gardens, demonstration fields, and a commercial kitchen that is available for rent and is used as a site for various cooking and gardening classes offered by the Burlington County Parks System.

The Farmers Market continues to be the Agricultural Center’s top attraction, regularly drawing thousands of shoppers each Saturday, rain or shine, from across Burlington County and beyond.

In 2024 the market was voted the No. 1 farmers market in New Jersey during the American Farmland Trust’s annual poll. In 2025, it was voted the No. 4 farmers market in the nation by the USA Today 10BEST Readers Choice Awards, and this year it returned to the Top 5 in the same national poll.

“Agriculture is an enormous part of Burlington County’s history and it is still a major part of the county’s present day economy,” said Commissioner Randy Brolo. “The Farmers Market offers our residents a way to directly support local farmers and small businesses while enjoying some great music and atmosphere. Whether you’re looking to shop, eat or just relax, the Farmers Market is a fantastic place to visit every Saturday.”
