ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 9, 2026) – As the 2026-27 school year gets underway, the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) is pleased to announce that educators have a valuable resource to help teach environmental science lessons to elementary and middle school students.
Welcome to Your Watershed was designed by MDA and Maryland Public Television to bring science to life through engaging lessons on the water cycle, Chesapeake Bay watershed, and the importance of restoring and conserving Maryland’s natural resources. This multimedia collection is designed for elementary school students in grades 3-5, and middle school students in grades 6-8.
Students will explore how water cycles throughout our planet, identify factors that influence the movement of water and investigate how what happens throughout the watershed impacts the Chesapeake Bay. Supplemental enrichment activities on farming and watershed conservation are included, along with a detailed Teacher’s Guide for each lesson that aligns with national and state standards for easy curriculum integration.
Welcome to Your Watershed is available for free on Maryland Public Television’s Thinkport educational website.
