Rep. Pressel issues statement following governor's announcement to provide diesel tax relief to farmers
Note to the Press – State Rep. Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie), author of the letter calling for diesel tax relief for farmers, issued the below statement following the governor's announcement suspending special fuel restrictions for off road diesel for Indiana's farmers.
STATEHOUSE (Sept. 30, 2026) – "Help is on the way for Hoosier farmers facing rising diesel costs. Agriculture accounts for an estimated $35 billion in annual state revenue, and it's critical that we support our producers as they bring in this year's harvest. I'm thankful to Gov. Braun for working with state lawmakers and responding quickly to our request to help lower fuel costs during this critical time."
Pressel led 52 state legislators in a letter this week urging Gov. Braun to allow Hoosier farmers to utilize off road diesel fuel, which is not taxed, for agricultural operations until the end of harvest season. The letter can be viewed here.
